The Best Times to go to Disney World in 2024

The Best Times to go to Orlando

I’m an admin in a couple of travel-related Facebook groups, and the most frequent question we get asked is, “When is the best time to go to Disney World”. Though there are many factors that might contribute to the answer of this question, there are some tried and true times that are better to visit than others.

Definition of “Best Time”

When I say “the best time to go” I’m referring to when the prices and the crowds are the lowest. Anyone who has been to Orlando in the last few years knows the shoulder to shoulder people you’ll encounter at the parks if you go during spring break or the holidays! So, if this is your first time going, let’s talk about the best time to go to Disney World to get the best experience, at the best price, without having to fight crowds!

Best Time to go to Disney World in 2024

January/February

January is one of the best times to go to Disney World in my opinion! The weather is beautiful, EPCOT has the Festival of the Arts, and the crowds are usually very low. There are certain times during both January and February that you’ll find great prices and lower crowd levels, but be sure to talk to your travel agent about when those crowd levels will be the lowest. Also, keep in mind that Disney has the marathon weekend in February, so if heavy crowd levels are not your thing, avoid this weekend. Spring break crowds also start descending on the Orlando area around mid-February, so be sure to get your trip in sooner if you want to avoid things being too people-y.

What we recommend:

Anytime in January after MLK Jr. Day. Anytime in February before the 17th or after the 25th.

May

May can be a very humid time to visit Disney World but it’s also usually one of my favorite times. If you go during the beginning of May, you will avoid the crowds that come with the end of school and you can still take advantage of awesome pool time at your resort. Additionally, you’ll get to check out one of my favorite EPCOT events: the International Flower & Garden Festival. It’s gorgeous!

What we recommend:

May 1-23 but avoid weekends if possible!

August

Let’s get it out of the way…it will be hot! As in feeling like you’re going to melt into the pavement hot. But take some cooling towels, neck fans, and lots of bottled water, and it really isn’t that bad if you sit in the shade periodically to take a break and cool off. Better yet, head to one of Disney’s waterparks and enjoy the slides and lazy rivers! The crowd levels during this month are usually very low so there’s no fighting long wait times at the rides and attractions. This is also hurricane season though, so get your travel protection and watch the weather reports, just in case!

What we recommend:

August 11-30

September

Second to January, September is the next best time to go to Disney World in my opinion. With everyone starting back to school, the crowd levels are very low and usually that means the cost is too. It’s still pretty warm and sticky during this time of year but Disney World starts their Halloween celebrations and that can be a fun little extra to add to your trip! Don’t forget this is still hurricane season though so you might want to add some travel protection!

What we recommend:

Anytime this month! Even Labor Day isn’t very busy.

December

There really is nothing better than Christmas at Disney, so if you can squeeze a few days in here, you’ll be able to take in the gorgeous decorations in the parks and at the resorts, as well as some amazing festivities, such as Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom and Jollywood Nights at Hollywood Studios. The crowd levels are more on the mid to higher end, but it is 100% worth experiencing the magic of the holidays at the Disney World parks.

What we recommend:

December 1-15
